Your Food Collective wants to help us all understand where our food comes from, and the impact it’s having on the world. While also making the freshest, low-impact, foods easily accessible to everybody.
What does your business do, and who are your customers?
Our food system is the biggest driver of biodiversity loss and responsible for one third of global greenhouse gas emissions. We need to change the way we grow, produce and consume our food.
We’re a software company that helps farmers, manufacturers, distributors and consumers make better decisions so we can scale global food systems change.
Our tech solutions focus on two key areas:
- Local food security, decentralized distribution and logistics, and consumer led change of food systems. You can see this in action through our Commercial Operations – Your Food Collective.
- Environmental Footprinting of Food Products – consumers, governments and financial markets are all demanding impact transparency. We specialize in delivering product level and company level environmental foot-printing at an affordable price point for food brands, retailers and distributors across Asia Pacific. Alpha testing underway with a full product launch planned for late 2022. Watch this space, it’s going to be game changing.
What’s your mission?
Our quest is to regenerate our way of life through food.
Food is intimately linked to all of our planetary boundaries, directly to seven of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and presents a huge opportunity to be one of the greatest solutions to reverse the impacts of climate change and build happier, healthier communities. Getting food right is what gets us excited!!
What does it mean to you, to be a ‘social enterprise’?
It means building a business built on the triple bottom line, people, planet and profit.
Can you scale a mission? Are there challenges around growing your business, while also staying committed to your impact thesis?
Without a doubt, it’s one of the most rewarding things you can do in life, however it doesn’t mean it’s easy.
We’ve imbedded impact into everything we do from our daily priorities to our success metrics. This supports us to not only stay committed to our mission but also measure our success and communicate it with customers, partners and investors.
As a species and a planet we truly have reached a tipping point and it’s time for all of us to stand up and drive change so we can build a better tomorrow. It’s going to take commitment, courage and determination but it’s worth it.
How have you seen investor sentiment change over the past 5 years, when it comes to recognising the value (or cost) of being mission-led?
The landscape is definitely changing but we’ve still got a long way to go. Globally investors and financial markets are trying to understand the implications of climate and nature risk across their portfolios, how to manage it and where the future opportunities lie. It’s a massive mindset shift to measure metrics that sit outside traditional financial markets but it is happening.
Was there a business (either local or globally) that influenced the development of your organisation?
We’re continually inspired by companies that are coming out of Europe and leading the way when it comes to sustainability initiatives. The European market is probably about 5-10 years ahead of the Asia Pacific market when it comes to sustainability so there are lots of lessons we can learn to fast track change locally.
What’s in store for your business in 2022?
Our current focus is on development and testing of solutions to measure and communicate the environmental footprint of food products to global standards with data resolution that is fit for Asia Pacific. Affordable impact transparency will be key to scaling food systems change, meet consumer market demand, legislative requirements, access green financing and defend against greenwashing.
