The Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) is increasing opportunities for projects under the Nature Repair Market – the world-first national, legislated, voluntary biodiversity market.

The Nature Repair Market incentivises actions to restore and protect the environment, aiming to increase investment in nature and deliver high-integrity biodiversity projects across Australia. It encourages nature positive land management practices that deliver improved biodiversity outcomes.

Under the Nature Repair Market, landholders undertake projects that result in specific measurable biodiversity outcomes.

The department undertakes a range of consultation activities on key elements of the scheme, including methods, which set out how Nature Repair Market projects must be carried out.

Enhancing Native Vegetation

Consultation is now open on the design of an Enhancing Native Vegetation method. The proposed method would support projects on areas of Australia’s landscape that have historically experienced widespread clearing of native vegetation.

Projects could:

  • restore native vegetation through revegetation and facilitated regeneration
  • enhance the ecosystem condition of remnant vegetation for biodiversity
  • maintain the ecosystem condition of good-quality remnant vegetation.

The proposed method allows flexibility for projects to restore, enhance and/or maintain native vegetation.

The method builds on the Replanting Native Forest and Woodland Vegetation method and the Enhancing Remnant Vegetation pilot.

Have your say

DCCEEW are seeking feedback on the design of the Enhancing Native Vegetation method, which will be considered alongside expert advice, to prepare a final proposed method.

To have your say read the consultation document (Enhancing Native Vegetation method design consultation paper); draft your feedback, and upload your submission and any supporting information.

Submissions should be made by 10:00PM AEDT on Tuesday, 4 November 2025.
